  1. Embrace Curiosity: Approach your photography with a sense of curiosity and openness to new ideas… Allow yourself to explore different techniques, styles and subjects without judgment or expectation. Creativity thrives in an environment of curiosity and experimentation! All you have to do is pick up your camera and click. Look above and below. Try an angle never explored.
  2. Break Routine: Shake up your routine and step outside of your comfort zone to stimulate your creativity. Try shooting in new locations, experimenting with unconventional lighting setups or collaborating with other artists to spark fresh ideas and perspectives.
  3. Practice Mindfulness: Cultivate mindfulness in your photography practice by bringing awareness to the present moment. Slow down, observe your surroundings with intention and connect deeply with your subjects to capture those truly emotive portraits.
  4. Find Inspiration in Everyday Life: Seek inspiration in the beauty of the everyday world around you. Take time to notice the play of light and shadow, the textures and patterns in nature and the subtle nuances of human expression… Keep a visual journal or mood board to collect images and ideas that inspire your creative vision. Pinterest, for example, is a valuable resource to begin/create/cultivate a mood board!

  5. Embrace Failure: Embracing failure as an essential part of the creative process and an opportunity for growth. Instead of fearing mistakes or setbacks, view them as valuable learning experiences that can lead to breakthroughs and innovation in your photography!
  6. Cultivate Gratitude: Cultivating gratitude for the gift of creativity and the opportunity to express yourself through photography is a big one and my personal philosophy. Practice gratitude daily by acknowledging the beauty and abundance in your life and let it fuel your creative spirit… Ideas are there waiting for your attention. So open your heart and mind and while feeling thankful, just wait to see what ideas flow in…
  7. Trust Your Intuition: Trust your intuition and inner wisdom as you navigate your creative journey. Listen to your instincts, follow your heart and allow your unique artistic voice to guide you in creating meaningful and authentic portraits.
